Abstract (Description of Research)
University students who are employed are faced with the high demands that come with having a job. This is a possible reason as to why their GPAs are declining. This correlational study explores the impact employment has on the academic performance of Southern Adventist University undergraduate students. We gathered participants from departments around campus including Psychology, Nursing, Visual art and design, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math), Allied Health, Physical Education and Kinesiology, Culinary Arts, Modern Languages, etc. Findings show that there was a decrease in the GPAs of students who worked 20 hours or more during the week. It also showed that depending on the work related to their major, a student may have a higher GPA and academic performance. This study implies that the employment of Southern undergraduate university students will have an impact on their GPA.
