Scripture and Prayer in Christian Education - Nurturing, Discipleship, and Retention
Can Scripture and Prayer be anchors for success in academia, as well as a forum for nurturing, discipleship, and retention? Christian education bears the objective of spiritual growth and academic achievement. To attain this goal in my classes, each student selects, provides, and models, linguistically-speaking, a chosen Scripture reading, with a life application. Prayer is offered, providing a framework for the formulation of a prayer in the target language, facilitating competence to communicate with God through a newly acquired means. Studies have shown that the ability to express one’s inner thoughts in another language increases one’s aptitude and skill-level of communication in that language. These two undertakings provide a medium through which a student gains confidence in his/her ability to complete the class and academic pursuits. Higher education is pivotal to youth and young adults who are making life decisions concerning their relationship with God, a career, and their future!
