Abstract

The concept of vocational calling is illustrated in the parable of the talents. The servants used their given abilities and thus became ambassadors for the Master. The effectiveness of a college or university to connect calling with vocation is rooted in their mission or past history and in their institutional vocation or future. It is also influenced by the vocabulary of calling on campus that changes over time. A few recent ways of how Southern Adventist University is teaching this purposeful exploration of vocation are noted. Southern Adventist University’s future lies in faculty and staff’s commitment to live their calling while traveling with students in their vocational journey, waiting for the Master’s return.
