This framed quote comes from Abraham Lincoln’s first campaign statement on March 9, 1832. At 23 years old, Lincoln announced his candidacy for a position in the Illinois state house of representatives. His candidacy speech is known to most scholars by the title “To the People of Sangamo County”. While Lincoln lost the election, he had received the majority vote in his own precinct.
