About the Author
Frank Lizardo has always been fascinated by the complexity and beauty of nature, but it wasn't until his junior year of high school that he found a new passion for a different aspect of nature: Insects. Frank enrolled in a class called “entomology” where he was required to catch many different kinds of bugs and also learn about the wonders and intricacies of insects and how they live and affect the world around us. In just a few months, Frank, with help from his family of course, caught nearly 100 insects of various types. Frank found happiness in learning about the insects he caught and enjoyed discovering more about them. Additionally, he was very happy when his family would show excitement with him as well. At the end of the semester, Frank was at the top of his class for his work. Since then, he has kept this as a hobby.
Four years later, Frank is still catching bugs every now and then when he has time. In the summertime, he and his high school entomology friends would go out and spend days dedicated to catching bugs and having a lot of fun. Frank finds joy when his friends show interest in it because he gets to talk about how cool insects are, and he is able to show his collection and knowledge with fun facts about them. From the pretty butterfly to the scary—looking beetles, Frank has learned to appreciate every single one of them…. Except maybe not some cockroaches…
About the Exhibit
The “Wondrous Creations” was quite the literal title given to the display. Aside from everything else God has created, Insects are truly wondrous creatures. Their variety in color, design, and behaviors make them such interesting creatures to observe and admire. These frames are the work of the last 2 years during the warm seasons—a process of finding, pinning, and framing. With time, Frank has enhanced his skills in pinning the insects and he has had quite a lot of fun being able to make them look how he wants them. Although it takes a lot of patience and effort, it is a very satisfactory process. This display will give you a small taste of the variety and beauty of what insects can truly be.
This exhibit was on display on McKee Library's Main Floor during the Winter 2025 semester.
