Enumerating Primitive Pythagorean Triples

Abstract
All primitive Pythagorean triples (PPTs) are generated using an enumeration that highlights certain meaningful patterns. However this algorithm produces some nonprimitive Pythagorean triples; these are referred to here as "near-primitive" Pythagorean triples (NPPTs). All PPTs and NPPTs are shown graphically as points on upward-opening parabolic curves, for which a simple integer-valued function is given below. Analysis identifies the exact requirements for a PT to be an NPPT.
