Southern Missionary College
Features the article "SMC Names Buildings". An assemblage of SMC's 1000 plus students in addition to faculty)', the Board of Trustees, Committee of 100, and special out-of-town guests gathered Feb. 6 in the College gymnasium for a special Plaque Presentation Ceremony. This was the occasion for the official naming of three buildings in tribute to individuals especially associated with the College through its early years and during its transitional period from junior college to senior status.

Southern Missionary College's Stu- dent Association officially opened its new activity center recently in a ceremony honoring Mrs. Betty Fleming, wife of SMC's general manager. Mrs. Fleming was responsible for the interior decoration of the student center on the third floor of Wright Hall.

Mabel Wood, associate professor of music emeritus, has been ap- pointed editor of the SMC Alumni Bulletin, accord- ing to Dr. Wilbert M. Schneider, SMC's president. Miss Wood, who holds a B.A. degree from Union College, LinMiss Wood coin, Nebr., and the M.A. degree from the University of Nebraska, retired on June 1, from her full-time music-teaching career.

There is a new shopping center, a women's dormitory and several additions to the old buildings, thus completely changing the physical plant. The constriction of the new Collegedale church is to begin this summer.

Its worth has increased from $1,869,- 126.54 in June of L958 to $3,116,- 293.01 as of June, 1962. This increase during the quadrennial period amounts to 51,247,166.47. The capital building program on the campus has undergone considerable expansion in this tour- year period.

VISITING Southern Missionary College after an absence of two or three years an alumnus said, "When I saw the large green and white over- head sign spanning the road at the campus approach (near where the Yellow House once stood,) I thought I was coming into a metropolis!" Similar luminous signs direct visitors to the industries, the dormitories, the college store, and to various other places of importance on the campus.

Those of you who were privileged to be present at our last Alumni Homecoming well remember the Saturday evening program depicting the events surrounding SMC's past. The skit for this program was taken largely from the book which Mrs. Elva Gardner is writing of the history of SMC. We are happy to announce that this very fine portrayal of Our Alma Mater's past is now nearing completion, and that the college board has enthusiastically given the go-ahead on the first run of SMC—A School of His Planning.
