1-bromo-4-butylbenzene will act as the starting material in attempts to create a new π-conjugated system. The overall reaction scheme to be explored is seen in Figure 5 below. The synthesis begins with a one-pot Sonogashira reaction. Upon completion of the benzophosphole a Scholl reaction will create the desired π-extended dibenzophosphole. The examination of the physical and chemical properties will take place once the desired π-extended dibenzophosphole is synthesized.
