Abstract
Heather, a Southern alumna, shared her experience as a student missionary and teacher in Pohnpei, Micronesia. She reflected on the experiences that led her to serve as a missionary and how her time in Pohnpei shaped her faith and relationships. She described the unique culture of the island and the challenges and rewards of missionary life, emphasizing the impact it had on her personal and spiritual growth.
Pohnpei is one of the four states of the Federated States of Micronesia, located in the western Pacific Ocean. It is the largest and most developed island in the nation, known for its lush tropical landscape, heavy rainfall, and rich biodiversity. Pohnpei has a deep cultural heritage, with traditions that emphasize communal living and respect for elders. The island is also home to the ancient ruins of Nan Madol, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
