Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is the third leading cause of disease-related death in the United States. Many people have generally heard of it before, or at least the abbreviation, but do not know much more about the disease. I will be describing the normal and abnormal histology of lung tissue. I will highlight those most at risk, common signs and symptoms, and what preventative measures can be taken to avoid occurrence of the disease or lessen the symptoms.
