Educators look for practical and engaging classroom assessment techniques (CATs) to enhance the learning experience. An innovative CAT, the five-minute peer writing activity (5MPWA), was developed and compared to the one-minute paper (OMP) into a Fundamentals of Nursing classroom during Fall 2022 and Winter 2023. Nursing students scored higher and reported increased engagement and satisfaction with the 5MPWA compared to the OMP. The 5MPWA was presented to nurse educators attending a workshop session at two educator conferences in July and September, 2023. Nurse educators reported engagement, satisfaction, and general intent to try the CAT in the future.
