Abstract (Description of Research)

This study will examine the effects of artificial intelligence (AI) on students’ motivation to produce original, high-quality work. Two groups of undergraduate students will have 20 minutes to write a short essay. One group will be told upfront that they can use AI to refine their work for 10 minutes after writing. However, the study will only evaluate their unassisted essay. The other group will be told to submit their essay without assistance from the internet or AI. Results are expected to show that students in the AI group will produce lower quality original work.
