Abstract (Description of Research)

Abstract

This study will examine the effects of room temperature on cognitive performance. We will test whether exposure to a hot room of 78°F impacts performance on a word search in comparison to a room at an optimal temperature of 72°F. Thirty-four college students (n=34) will participate in a within-subject experiment. In this experiment, the students will complete a word search under both the hot (77°F) and the optimal (72°F) room temperature conditions. Performance will be measured by the number of words correctly identified in under six minutes. It is hypothesized that participants in the 77°F room will perform significantly worse on the word search compared to those in the standard room temperature.
