Abstract (Description of Research)

Our research focuses on the synthesis and characterization of an unknown organic black solid that formed while attempting to create an anthraquinone dimer using Sonogashira coupling. The formation of this unexpected product led us to try several purification methods and characterization techniques. When dissolved in dichloromethane (DCM), the compound shows very strong light absorption. Additional experiments are needed to determine the structure of this material and understand how it formed during the reaction. Our presentation will cover how the solid was purified and what this unknown solid might be.
